Mumbai, March 21 (IANS) The Indian cricket board has called an emergency meeting Sunday to take a decision on the way ahead for the Indian Premier League (IPL), which has been compelled to thrice revise its schedule due to the Lok Sabha polls.
'The working committee will be discussing the IPL schedule Sunday,' IPL commiossner Lalit Modi said.
IPL has thrice revised the schedule for the Twenty20 tournament after the central government expressed strong reservations on providing security cover in the wake of the general elections.
Home Minister P. Chidambaram has said it is for the states to take the final call on providing security for the April 10-May 24 tournament. The five-phased Lok Sabha elections will be held April 16-May 13.
Many states are also not keen on providing security personnel for the tournament during the elections.
'We are ready for any eventuality and have 42 different schedules prepared. Everything will be discussed and finalised at the meeting tomorrow,' Modi said.
Modi briefed various members of the board, including former president Sharad Pawar, president Shashank Manohar and secretary N. Srinivasan, at an informal meeting Saturday.
Modi will also meet the franchise owners after the BCCI meeting.
