Aug 25: After a great lapse of time ultimately Orissa government took action by suspending the State’s Director General of Police (Home Guard) Bidya Bhusan Mohanty after the Rajasthan police submitted a non-bailable warrant against him to the Orissa police in case of his son Bitihotra’s parole.

Bitihotra (Biti) Mohanty, the son of DGP BB Mohanty who is facing a seven year jail term after being charged for criminal assault on a German tourist in Jaipur jumped parole in November 2006. Since then the Rajasthan police has not been able to trace Biti and accused his father BB Mohanty for helping his son escaping from Alwar jail.

BB Mohanty had appealed to convert the non-bailable warrant into a bailable one but Jaipur court had rejected his plea on Monday and soon after the Rajasthan police who had already visited Orissa two times to arrest BB Mohanty, submitted the arrest warrant to the Cuttack District Collector.

Though the state government has officially confirmed the suspension but Orissa police has no clue so far of the hideout of BB Mohanty.

Orissa government earlier was maintaining silence over the issue but after the intervention of Rajasthan government; the Chief Minister of Orissa Naveen Patnaik assured that law will take its own course as no one is above law and Orissa will tender all cooperation to Rajasthan police.

  • On March 20, 2006 Rajasthan Police arrested Biti Mohanty on rape charges.
  • On April 12, a local court in Jaipur announced a seven years of rigorous imprisonment
  • In November 2006, Mohanty appealed for a temporary parole in the court. The court allowed a parole period till Dec 04 but Biti Mohanty did not return after the end of the period.
  • On May 2007 the Jaipur court order Rajasthan police to arrest BB Mohanty with charges under IPC section 216 and 130.
  • BB Mohanty appealed in Jaipur session court for anticipatory bail that gave him a six week respite till May 31 st
  • On May 28, Rajasthan Police sent a team to Orissa to catch the top cop but did not get any clue as he was on medical leave.

With this order the Orissa police seem to assist its Rajasthan counterpart as it is not possible to trace BB Mohanty in Orissa without the help of Orissa government.
