Uppinangady (Karnataka), Feb 27 (ANI): The wall of a mosque collapsed on five persons, killing them all and injured many others in Uppinangady, 60 kilometers from Mangalore.

Among the dead were three adults and two infants when the wall of Juma Mosque collapsed on Thursday during a function.

A large number of people had congregated at the mosque. It may have been the cause of injury to many in the stampede following the melee.

Offering condolence to the families of the deceased, J.A. Bawa, an ex-police official and an eye witness said, "Five members have expired out of which three are adults and two infants. I pray to god to give strength to their families to tolerate this pain."

The injured were admitted to nearby hospitals where they are undergoing treatment.

According to residents, the wall was newly constructed but could not bear the weight of the people sitting on it. (ANI)
