London, Feb 24 (ANI): Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet's director husband Sam Mendes has credited UK's arts industry for Britain's success at this year's Oscars.
Mendes complimented all British winners at the Oscars but insisted that their success was down to the theatre in England.
"I started 20 years ago with Danny (Boyle) in the theatre - the arts in England are incredibly strong and that's where Kate started as a child actor," Sky News quoted Mendes, as saying.
Winslet won the best actress Oscar for her role as Hanna Schmitz in 'The Reader'.
Boyle's 'Slumdog Millionaire', which tracks the journey of an 18-year-old boy from rags-to-riches, won eight Oscars out of the 10 categories it was nominated for.
The flick has not only earned the Best Director gong for Danny Boyle, but also the Best Film award.
It also bagged awards for Original score, Original song, Film Editing, Adapted Screenplay, Cinematography, and Best Sound Mixing. (ANI)
