Sopore Police registers murder case against Army

Srinagar, Feb 22 (ANI): A local police station at Sopore in Jammu and Kashmir has registered an FIR under section 302 against the Army, in connection with a firing incident on Saturday in which two youths were killed and another one was critically injured.

 

Twenty two Rashtriya Rifles battalion of the Army is alleged to have opened indiscriminate fire, without any provocation, on a group of people who were part of a festival of a revered Saint's shrine in Bomai.

 

The firing has claimed the lives of Mohammad Amin Tantray of Bomai-Sopore and Javid Ahmad of Muslimpeer-Sopore and has injured one Firdous Ahmad.

 

Soon after the news about the incident spread in the area, thousands of people jammed the streets and staged a massive protest against the troops.

 

Police claims that the situation in the town is "tense" but under control.

 

However, locals are complaining about the curfew imposed in the area, which has deterred them from moving out of their houses. (ANI)
