Intelligence reports LeT after Kasab's life

Amidst intelligence report that Mumbai attack’s coordinator Lashkar-e-Taiba is behind one of the 26/11 operators, Ajmal Amir Kasab, the lone surviving perpetrator in Indian jail, to eliminate him, Kasab has been shifted to the high security Arthur Road Jail.


Kasab was sent to judicial custody till Feb 26, after his police remand ended, so as to confessional statement before a judge could be recorded. “Kasab who was in police custody will now be in judicial custody,” said Rakesh Maria, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime).

The Mumbai Crime Branch has provided a blanket security cover to Kasab. About 26 policemen, who are on rotation duty to foil any attempt on Kasab’s life, have been deployed to monitor his security arrangements. CCTV cameras to be installed inside the jail, the police said.

Intelligence Bureau officials have received fresh inputs that LeT, who is planning to kill Kasab, have contracted six persons for the work. All the six shooters are being sent to Mumbai from Pakistan to accomplish the operation.

This is the second time that such reports have been cracked. Earlier, the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) had intercepted a telephonic conversation suggesting underworld don Dawood Ibrahim was contacted by LeT to carry out the mission—Mission to kill Kasab.

On Friday, Kasab was produced before a magistrate where his statement was recorded in connection with the Mumbai strikes. Kasab has to face trial in 12 cases booked against him by the Mumbai police. A chargesheet will be filed against him on Feb 24.

Kasab was nabbed by the police on Nov 26, 2008 when trying to escape after gunning down scores of people at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus and Cama Hospital. While he was arrested his accomplice, Ismail Khan, was shot dead.

Nearly 183 people, including foreign nationals, were assassinated and around 300 injured in the attacks on November 26 by ten terrorists who took hostages people at Taj, Oberoi and Trident Hotels, and Nariman House, and opened fire at CST and Cama Hospital.

Kasab is wanted in 15 countries where cases are registered against him and the concerning governments have ordered their own probe.
