Somnath Chatterjee withdraws his comments against MPs

New Delhi, Fri, 20 Feb 2009 ANI

New Delhi, Feb 20 (ANI): The Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee on Friday opted to withdraw his comments against the MPs, saying they were actually made out of frustration.

Chatterjee said that the MPs should not take his comments seriously and wished them good luck for the forthcoming elections.

"Yesterday, I made some comments out of frustration. I want all of to come back with people's support," Chatterjee said.

On Thursday, Chatterjee criticized Members of Parliament for their behaviour, saying they did not deserve even one paisa of public money.

The Speaker made the comments as MPs stormed the well of house, raising a spate of issues and disrupting the Question Hour.

Annoyed by the member's behaviour, Chatterjee said that the people of the country would give a 'fit verdict' in the coming elections.

"What can I say if you don't want Parliament to function? I hope all of you should be defeated in the elections. I hope the people give their verdict properly. You have to be taught a lesson," Chatterjee had stated on Thursday while being on chair in Lok Sabha. (ANI)
