Top Maoist leader Sambasivudu surrenders in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, Feb 17 (ANI): Maoist leader Konapuri Ilaiah alias Sambasivudu, who was carrying a reward of Rs 10 lakh on his head, surrendered in Hyderabad.

 

Speaking to the reporters, state Home Minister K. Jana Reddy said that Sambasivudu surrendered to join the social mainstream.

 

"Sambasivudu surrendered to the government because of his ill health and wants to join the mainstream. He wanted to spend his life with his family," said Reddy.

 

The Maoist leader agreed with Reddy.

 

"I lost interest in the armed movement and in the meanwhile got Chikungunya and lost my health. I want to join the mainstream and spend life with my family," said Sambasivudu.

 

Sambasivudu surrendered before Special Intelligence Branch Deputy Inspector General of Police B Shivdhar Reddy.

 

Sambasivudu has confessed to be the state secretary of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist) from September 2006 to the end of 2007.

 

Sambasivudu was also allegedly involved in the murder of Congress MLA C Narsi Reddy in Mahabubnagar district on August 15, 2005.(ANI)
