Aug 16: Ottovio Quattrochi walks out freely amidst all controversy after a plea to for his extradition in Argentina was not pursued in the Supreme Court by CBI.
CBI has lost several of his appeal in Malaysia and other country for Quattrochi’s extradition to India.
His name came into light in Swiss Bank document along with Win Chadha, Rajiv Gandhi and Hinduja brother who is said to be received bribe in 14 billion howitzer gun scandal.
Charges against Rajiv Gandhi and Hinduja brothers were quashed in high court for bribery received from A B Bofors for winning a bid to supply 155mm field howitzer. This case came in news during V.P Singh tenure as a defense minister .There was a report of phasing this gun out as it remains unutilized for several years.
CBI is under scan for not carrying the case in Argentine Supreme Court. As Quattrochi returned to Italy, after his release on Friday, India could be informed only on Tuesday night raising several question on the loopholes of communication between Indian ambassador there and CBI .
CBI director Vijay Shankar accused his predecessor and Arun Jaitly for building weak case against Quattrochi. But he told that CBI will continue with the case with all seriousness and it’s up to government to withdraw the case against him.
Meanwhile Quattrochi said that CBI is in political pressure to continue this case against him. They failed to gather evidences against his involvement. He said that he is been always targeted for some political motives and a high time to close the mater.
