SC endorses Raghavan Committee report on ragging
In its latest ruling, the Supreme Court has asked the state authorities to come down heavily on ragging related cases in higher educational institutions as per the guidelines recommended by the Raghavan Committee.
The court while endorsing the report of the committee, ruled that the suggestions of the committee would be binding for all educational institutions and any inaction from the part of institution could lead to its de-recognition.
Earlier, viewing the surging ragging incidents and its criminal forms, the Union HRD ministry following the directives of the apex judicial body had appointed a committee headed by former CBI Director R.K. Raghavan to give suggestions on the means of prevention of ragging in educational institutions.
Based on the explanation and various analysis of the committee, the court said that all academic institutions should carry ragging related instructions and warnings in their prospects, as academic institutions have the primary responsibility in this regard.
Higher education regulatory bodies were also asked to issue stern instructions to college managements to reinforce anti-ragging measures.
