Kushinagar, Wed, 04 Feb 2009 ANI

Kushinagar, Feb 4 (ANI): A farmer in Uttar Pradesh is playing a good Samaritan by tending to a ten foot long wounded python.

Gulab Singh, a resident of Kushinagar district took the wounded reptile under his wings when he found it lying on the roadside badly injured by some people.

The python, which had suffered injuries after getting caught in a fishing net, is being looked after tenderly by Gulab who had it checked by a veterinary doctor as well.

The python is now a member of Gulab's household and has become a fascination for the villagers, who throng the farmer's house throughout the day to look at the serpent.

So much is Gulab's affection for his reptilian friend that he told the forest officials from not to take it away.

"When the forest department officials came to take away the python, I told them they would only leave it somewhere. So, its better I keep it with me and look after it. I told them once it gets well then it can stay or leave as it wishes," said Gulab. By Pawan Shah (ANI)
