New Delhi, Jan 26 (IANS) Delhiites woke up to a dense fog cover Monday morning, but the weatherman said the sky would clear by forenoon and the rest of the day would be warm and sunny.
General visibility plunged to zero at 6.30 a.m., stirring fears that this may affect the Indian Air Force flypast at the end of the Republic Day celebrations that started at 9.30 a.m.
However by 9.00 a.m. the fog cover had been cleared by a cold breeze and visibility was at a comfortable 1,000 metres.
'The minimum temperature Monday morning was recorded at 13.2 degrees Celsius, a good four degrees above average. The minimum in the coming 24 hours is likely to lower to about 11 degrees Celsius, while the maximum will hover around 23 degrees Celsius,' an official from the Safdarjung met office said.
The morning fog had caused delays in flight schedules at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), officials said.
'Visibility had considerably dropped in the early hours, but now both the runways are working fine - there are no cancellations or delays on account of fog now,' an IGIA official said around 9 a.m.
He added that the 'air space would be closed between 11.15 a.m. and 12.15 p.m.' for the flypast that is the traditionalfinale of the Republic Day parade.
