New Delhi, Jan 23 (IANS) Officers of 21 public sector undertakings (PSUs) have joined hands to demand greater autonomy in decision making.
'We have constituted a Coordination Committee of Officers' Associations of Central PSUs to fight for the cause to save the PSUs. We should be given autonomy to take commercial decisions of our own,' Rakesh Pandey, chairman of the NTPC Executives Federation of India (NEFI), told reporters here Friday.
He said the PSU officers were upset with the way oil companies officers were treated for going on strike earlier this month.
'We don't get any budgetary support from the government. We are not talking of salary hike. We want our colleagues, who were arrested during the oil sector strike, to be released and reinstated soon,' said Pandey.
He said the government had misled the public by stating that oil officers were being paid Rs.100,000 monthly salary at their initial years of service.
Added V.K. Sharma, general secretary of NEFI: 'An AGM (assistant general manager) rank officer of a PSU draws not more than Rs.38,000 per month.'
The coordination committee has officers from 21 major PSUs. 'We would add many more officers from other PSUs,' he said.
There are 216 PSUs in India.
