New Delhi, Jan 20 (ANI): Union Minister of State for Women and Child Development (Indepedent Charge) Renuka Chaudhary has felicitated the twenty children selected for National Bravery Awards for the year 2008 here last evening.
She praised the deeds of these children and called them as the `real heroes'. he children beamed with joy on being congratulated by Renuka Chowdhary.
"I am feeling nice about the fact that I am going to receive an award from the Prime Minister. People look at me with respect now," said Vishal Suryaji Patil, an awardee.
Applauding the children, the Minister said that they had set outstanding examples. She wished them a bright future and also presented gifts to them.
"They are the real heroes. They do not have any stunt master or dialogue writer for them. The producers and the directors should meet them and show them as the real heroes of our nation," said Renuka. ndian Council for Child Welfare that functions under the Government of India instituted the Bravery awards in 1957.
Since then a total of 756 children - 541 boys and 215 girls - have been given the Awards.
The awards are declared on the country's Children's Day, November 14, every year. The children are subsequently invited to New Delhi and the Prime Minister gives away the honours prior to the Republic Day, which falls on January 26.
The children also participate in the Republic Day parade riding atop caparisoned elephants. (ANI)
