'Terrorists marginalised in Kashmir due to security coordination'

National, Tue, 13 Jan 2009 IANS

Jammu, Jan 13 (IANS) Downward slide in terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir has been made possible due to close coordination among various security agencies, a senior Indian Army commander said Tuesday.

A high profile meeting of core group of security agencies was held at the headquarters of 16 Corps in Nagrota, around 15 km from here, to review the security situation in light of the successful conduct of the state assembly elections and the forthcoming Republic Day.

The meeting was presided over by Lt. Gen. R.K. Swamy, the General Officer Commanding (GoC) of the 16 Corps, who is also an ex-officio security adviser to the state government.

Swamy attributed the 'downward slide in terrorism to the synergy and jointmanship amongst the entire security set up in the state', according to a defence spokesman.

The GoC addressing the high profile security meeting 'stressed on the need to maintain continuous pressure and moral ascendancy over terrorists, who have by and large been marginalised'.

Swamy emphasised that 'coming few months are crucial and the security forces need to be extra vigilant to neutralise the designs of anti national elements'.

Top officials present in the meeting included Director General of Police Kuldeep Khoda and Director General CID Ashok Bhan besides other top intelligence and civil officials.

Swamy complimented the security forces, intelligence agencies and civil administration for 'achieving synergy, harmony and coordination amongst themselves towards handling the internal security situation in Jammu region'.
