Four killed in police shootout in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow, Jan 8 (IANS) Four gangsters who had committed many crimes in Uttar Pradesh were killed in a shootout with the police though two managed to escape Thursday evening, the police said.

 

'The four were involved in cases of loot, dacoity, contract killing and highway robbery,' Uttar Pradesh Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Brij Lal told IANS.

 

 

They were killed in a cross-firing with the police at Sidhari locality in Azamgarh district, some 300 km from Lucknow, he added.

 

 

Two 9-mm carbines, a 9-mm pistol, a 12-bore rifle and a countrymade pistol along with several cartridges were seized from them, the police said.

 

 

While two the criminals have been identified as Azam and Pappu, the police are yet to identify the other two killed in the gun battle though they are suspected to be members of the same gang.
