Madhya Pradesh assembly session commences
Bhopal, Jan 5 (IANS) The inaugural session of Madhya Pradesh's newly elected 13th Vidhan Sabha commenced Monday in this capital city after senior opposition leader Jamuna Devi was appointed pro-tem speaker.
Jamuna Devi was administered oath by Governor Balram Jakhar Sunday.
The pro-tem speaker Monday started administering oath to the newly-elected members. This process is expected to complete by Tuesday.
The 230-member assembly comprises 143 from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), 71 from the Congress, seven Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), five Bharatiya Jan Shakti (BJS) Party, one Samajwadi Party (SP) and three Independent legislators.
Speaker of the 12th assembly Ishwardas Rohani is likely to be re-elected Wednesday.
Initially Rohani was reluctant to handle the chair but changed his mind after Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan made an announcement to this effect at Jabalpur, Rohani's home town.
The election of speaker would be followed by the Governor's address and then transaction of business in the house will continue for nine days, comprising six sittings.
