New Delhi, Jan 1 (ANI): Inaugurating the photo gallery depicting various aspects of forests and wild life of the country, Minister of State for Environment Namo Narain Meena today said that this is a good effort to have a glimpse of all aspects and facets of our forests and wildlife at one place.
Meena said the Ministry is at the forefront in regard to conservation and management of wild life, forests, rivers, mangroves and coral reefs and accord high priority to their conservation.
The Minister informed that India ranks amongst the few most diverse bio-geographic regions of the world coupled with a large variety of habitat types.
"We have about 45000 species of flora and around 89000 species of fauna," he added.
Reiterating Ministry's efforts for conservation, Meena said that biological diversity provides the material basis of human life, thus conservation is a must for the maintenance of the biosphere in a state supportive of human survival.
The Ministry is planning to have more photo galleries at this premises where other flora and fauna will be exhibited.
The photo gallery contains about 50 photographs. Other than birds, animals and flowers, there are photographs of wetlands, forests and rare corals.
Prominent wetlands of Chilka lake, Periyar reserve, Chenab and Wullar lake of Jammu and Kashmir, Indus river, are part of this gallery.
The birds include crested hawk Eagle, black headed oriole,Indian wild ass, weasel, painted stork, fan tail, peafowl, adjutant stork and black ibis.
The forest cover of all types such as tropical semi evergreen forest, evergreen forest, mangrove vegetation, grassland, scrub jungle, moist deciduous forest have been exhibited.
Most of the photographs have been contributed by Botanical Survey of India and Zoological Survey of India.
Photographs from Bipati c. Sinha, K. Ramesh, Dhananjai Mohan, Deepak V., M. Mohan, Kaushik Banerjee, Vinod Maina, V. Sampath Kumar, Mohd. Zahir Joseph Vattakaven, W.Arisdason , Jeevan Singh Jalal and Geer Foundation have also been placed in the gallery. (ANI)
