July 27: Despite being one of the fastest growing mobile phone industry and also a large number of young Indians using internet, gaming in India whether mobile phones or video has not gained an equal rise in business. However, with the association of Indian film industry, Bollywood, the current scenario displays change within a couple of year.
Reportedly some of India’s well known production houses are planning to tie-up with some foreign as well as Indian software companies to produce movie based video games. This may be a new strategy of marketing, as film-video games will be scheduled to release ahead of the actual screening of the film.
In fact as per the plan if a Bollywood 3D game releases at least two weeks before the release of the film it can certainly create a buzz of the movie in advance, which would add to the publicity and promotion of the movie.
As the number of cell phone users is pretty much higher than the PC and Internet, mobile gaming can be a good idea in terms of advertising policy. There can also be other value addition services like gaming competition, prizes and also the participation of movie stars in that particular movie can generate enthusiasm among game-players.
Again though Bollywood-themed games are expected to hold considerable market share but that will be only limited to a few films as most of the Hindi movies are based on love and romance with songs and dance, which doesn’t shape the gaming concept. That means only a few selected movies with action pact sequence can be converted into 3D games.
If this is the concern then producer needs to come up with different ideas keeping the theme and choice of audience in mind. One of the important concepts behind the whole gaming theme is to present some of the popular Hindi film characters and film stars in mobile and video games like the usual Superman, Batman and Spiderman.
Gaming though not a new concept but certainly a new tactic to target a new group who doesn’t watch movie frequently but are addicted to gaming. This is also important as mobile phones are now widely used all across the country including rural downtown areas where multiplex or movie theatres have not reached that stage. However, in the whole process mobile operators have to play a big role by providing a quality product with a low-priced downloading charge.
