July 26 : BJP is likely to form government in Goa as a consequence of withdrawal of support of two MGP and one independent MLA from the ruling coalition last night destabilizing the incumbent government.

Newly formed coalition ‘Goa Democratic Alliance’ with 14 legislators of BJP, 2 from Save Goa Front, 2 MGP and 1 UGDP and 1 independent MLA unanimously chosen Manohar Parrikar as their leader and Chuchill as his deputy.

Due the absence of Governor S C Jamir from the state the strength of the coalition would be tested on the floor of the assembly.

Congress-led government faced the erase of confidence when its two coalition partners withdrew support from the government and another MLA resigned suddenly leaving it to short of majority. The congress-led government was formed on June 8. Digambar Kamat formed the government with the support of 3 NCP members, 2 MGP members and 1 independent MLA with BJP functioning as the main opposition party in the assesmbly.

UGDP MLA Baboosh Monserrate is being named as the mastermind behind this reshuffle.

Though the rumours spread in air before hand that opposition contemplates the alternative government with the help of two Save Goa Front MLA’s.

MLA leaving congress told her humiliation behind her quit of congress. News of trading of MLAs was too in air to deliberately dethrone the incumbent Chief Minister of Goa. MLAs revealed that they have been offered around 20 crores of rupees.

Chief Minister said yesterday that his government is thinking of probing into the offers made to congress MLAs to change their sides.

In congress camp the effort is being made to save the government and political activities have become intense. Meetings are being held at the residence of chief minister.

An expected switch over to other camp by Vishwajit Rane has been denied by the congress man saying that he stood by the coalition in its tough times.

Chief minister Kamat is confident of proving his strength on the floor. He said, “I still enjoy the majority and will prove it on the floor”.
