Blue bull, monkey rescued in Ghaziabad

National, Sun, 28 Dec 2008 IANS

Ghaziabad, Dec 28 (IANS) A Neelgai (blue bull) tethered with a rope in the courtyard of a farmer's house and a monkey chained in a slum cluster here were set free, an official said Sunday.

The Ghaziabad unit of People for Animal (PFA), the forest department and the police rescued the Neelgai and the monkey.

The Masuri police station chief said that a case has been registered against Saleem, a farmer, from whom the blue bull was recovered.

A move to arrest Saleem was opposed by a mob. The possession of a wild animal is illegal under section 9 of the Wild Life Protection Act, the official said.

Ashima Sharma of the PFA said she was on her way to the animal hospital at Dhaulana when she spotted the wild animal tied in the courtyard of the farmer's house.

Saleem refused to free the blue bull when she asked him to.

Then she approached the police and on her complaint the case was registered.

On the same day, she helped rescue a monkey that was tied with a heavy chain in a slum cluster near the railway line. The man who had tied the monkey fled.

Both animals were set free in the forest near ordinance factory at Murad Nagar.
