July 26: Reportedly on the special day of Vijaya Divas commemorating 8 th anniversary of Kargil War a group of militants attacked a research unit associated to Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) located in the Zakhoora region of Kashmir.

This is to be known that 142 Battalion CRPF camp is just near by the research unit. The militants were surrounded by the Jawans immediately and exchanged fire.

In cross firing the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has killed two militants while they were trying to flee by jumping the wall. Another one is believed to be hiding in that area.

In one hour long cross firing between the militants and security forces seven CRPF personnel also apparently have minor injuries. Official however confirmed no such damages to the research centre.

Though the atomic research centre is highly guarded it is not clear how they came inside the centre. According to an army official, the militants suddenly started hurling grenades and opened fire immediately after security personnel enclosed the entire area.

In fact as the day July 26 observe the 8 th anniversary of India’s Kargil Triumph; it was obvious that militants may plan such kind of activity in the state.

No terrorist group has taken responsibility of the attack. CRPF officials suspect them to be part of the suicide squad. In the morning the number of the attackers was not known but later CRPF IG told that attackers were 3 in number out which two have been liquidated while one is still hidden in the area.

This is first of its kind attack in the area in more than one and half years.
