Lucknow, Dec 18 (IANS) Though the police went to a Uttar Pradesh resident's house Thursday to arrest his sons on his complaint of acid attack, they stumbled upon a large cache of explosives and weapons in the house, officials said.
The police arrested Imtiyaz from the Khuldabad area in Allahabad, some 200 km from here, and recovered live cartridges and prohibited explosives besides country-made weapons from his possession.
'We have recovered over 50 cartridges, including those of semi-automatic rifles and other bore pistols. We are also surprised to recover a good quantity of tri nitro toluene (TNT) besides two ordinance factory hand-grenades, detonators, fuse wires and three country-made pistols,' Allahabad police chief Ashok Muttha Jain told IANS.
The police went to Imtiyaz's wife's house to arrest his sons. Imtiyas had earlier alleged they had thrown acid on him.
'However, when we reached there, his wife told us about the presence of the explosives and arms in Imtiyaz's house,' Jain said.
The police conducted the searches at Imtiyaz's house and made the recoveries.
'We have also arrested Imtiyaz's two sons and are also interrogating them,' Jain added.
Imtiyaz has three criminal cases registered against him and the police are also probing why he had stored the explosives and arms in his house and from where he procured these.
