A new scheme to educate Muslim girls, thereby making them economically independent has been launched in Bihar on Thursday in collaboration with the Central government.
The scheme named HUNUR will provide free vocational training to Muslim girls in minority- dominated areas. The essential equipments will be made available to train girls, which would encourage them to adopt it as a profession.
Under the scheme, a total of 13,000 Muslim girls studying in different schools of Bihar will be provided free skill training and education through the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS).
The Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said, “Education is a big problem in Muslim society. The HUNUR will help them to move with the society and will make them capable of standing on their own feet.” The minister further said 50,000 girls would be trained in a specific skill by the next year.
Under the HUNUR, seven courses- Gram Sakhi, Jute Production, Cutting & Tailoring, Early Childhood Care & Education, Basic Technology and Beauty Culture-will be offered to girls to make them educate and help them to adopt any of the field of their choice as profession after the completion of training. The basic infrastructure and the essential equipments required for the particular field will be provided by the state.
The scheme is a collaborative project to be run with the help of Bihar Government and the Centre and Maktabs, Madarasas, Darul-uloom and the NIOS will provide chief contribution to the project to make it successful.
The most significant aspect of this scheme is the provision of relaxation of norms for accreditation for Traditional Educationally Backward Institutions especially Madarsas and Maktabs.
The Union Minister for Human Resources and Development, Arjun Singh was also present at the noble occasion. Inaugurating the HUNUR scheme designed for the Muslim girls, the Minister said, 'The concept of promoting education among women is not a new idea. In fact, this is the vision of Rajiv Gandhi to make the women skilled so that they could earn and be independent.'
“This is an initiative of Bihar government but the projection of the programme at the national level will cover a larger number beneficiaries," Singh added.
Along with the HUNUR scheme, another scheme designated for the Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes students of Bihar was launched Thursday. Under the scheme, the SC/ST students who have been associated with the NIOS will be provided free education. The scheme is also the collaborative project of both Bihar and the Central government to give total freeship to SC/ST learners of Bihar, both boys and girls.
