National, Fri, 12 Dec 2008 IANS

New Delhi, Dec 12 (IANS) Five members of a family were killed when two cars rammed against each other in the capital, the police said Friday.

Rakesh Garg, 48, his wife Uma Garg, 43, and their two sons Mukul Garg, 18, Radhe Garg, 10, and their niece, Tanvi Garg, 18, were returning to their Tri Nagar home from a marriage in Alipur area when a speeding Scorpio car rammed into their Maruti 800 car near the Kanhaiya Nagar Metro station around 12.40 a.m. Friday.

Police officials who inspected the spot said the victims were thrown out of the car due to the impact of the crash.

Uma Garg and Tanvi Grag died on the spot while Rakesh Garg and his sons succumbed to their injuries in the hospital.

Rakesh Garg, who owned a cosmetics shop and also worked as a real estate agent, has two more children - Shivani Garg, 23, who is married and Anshul Garg, 19, who is studying hotel management in Nainital.

'I have lost my whole family,' Rakesh Garg's father Angan Garg told reporters.

Tanvi Garg was the daughter of Rakesh's brother, Mukesh Garg.

After the news of accident spread, the family and relatives of the deceased took to the streets and raised slogans against the police.

'It is a sad incident. We have closed our shops for a day,' said one of the Garg's neighbours.

The police said they suspect four people were sitting in the Scorpio car and one of them suffered serious injuries. But they managed to escape from the spot.

'The Scorpio car is registered in the name of one Brahm Prakash and apparently his nephew Sunny was behind the wheels. Prakash is a businessman and lives in Rohini,' the police official said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (northwest Delhi) N.S. Bundela said they have not made any arrests yet.

'We have detained a few people and are questioning them,' he said.
