New Delhi, Dec 12 (ANI): Chief Justices and judges from 84 countries visited Raj Ghat to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi and asserted that his principles of non-violence and peace would play a significant role in bringing peace to the planet.
Around 250 Chief Justices from all across the globe are in New Delhi to participate in "9th International Conference of Chief Justices of the World" to be held in Lucknow.
Addressing media persons, Justice A.S. Quereshi, Chairman Reception Committee of the 9th International Conference of Chief Justices of the World, said that declaring war on terrorism is not a remedy for wiping out terrorism.
"If we declare war on terrorism, it would never end, rather it would increase. If we have to end terrorism, we will have to eliminate the causes of terrorism," said Justice A.S. Quereshi.
Gandhi's decades-long non-violent movement has inspired leaders across the world including exiled Tibetan leader Dalai Lama, South Africa's Nelson Mandela and US civil rights leader Martin Luther King, who led movements against injustice and suppression in their respective countries.
Gandhi, whose "fast unto death" to stop rioting has been the symbol of secularism. He was a strong advocate against the deep-rooted caste discrimination in Hindu society.
He was shot dead by a Hindu fanatic Nathuram Godse at a prayer meeting on January 30, 1948. (ANI)
