Prominent winners and losers in Delhi

New Delhi, Dec 8 (IANS) The following is the list of prominent winners and losers in Delhi:

Winners:

* Sheila Dikshit: The 71-year-old chief minister of Delhi defeated her rival Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Vijay Jolly by nearly 14,000 votes from the New Delhi constituency. Dikshit got 39,778 votes and Jolly managed 25,796.

* V.K. Malhotra: The veteran BJP leader defeated his nearest rival Jitender Kumar Kocher of the Congress by 11,419 votes from the Greater Kailash constituency in south Delhi.

* Ashok Kumar Walia: The Congress candidate from Laxmi Nagar crushed his nearest rival Murari Singh Panwar of the BJP by a robust margin of over 22,000 votes. While the Delhi finance minister garnered 54,252 votes, Panwar managed only 31,855.

* Harsh Vardhan: BJP Delhi unit chief won his seat from Krishna Nagar after a neck-to-neck fight with his immediate opponent Deepika Khullar of the Congress. Vardhan won by 3,204 votes.

* Raj Kumar Chauhan: The urban development minister is one of the few candidates in Delhi who beat their closest opponent by nearly 30,000 votes. While Chauhan got 50,448 votes, his nearest rival Yogesh Aatray got just 20,585 votes in Mongolpuri.

Losers:

* Amod Kanth: This retired top police officer of Delhi fought on a Congress ticket from Sangam Vihar, where he has been working as an activist among slum dwellers. S.C.L. Gupta of the BJP defeated Kanth by 3,589 votes.

* Praveen Khandelwal: Trade leader Khandelwal, who rose to prominence during the sealing drive in Delhi, managed a ticket from the BJP for the Chandni Chowk assembly seat but he lost to the Congress' P.S. Sawhney by a little over 8,000 votes.

* R.S. Bidhuri: Bidhuri had joined the Congress after quitting the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). The sitting legislator from Badarpur lost to Ram Singh Netaji of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) by over 13,000 votes.

* Kanwar Singh Tanwar: This BSP candidate from Chhatarpur hogged the headlines for being the richest candidate in the Delhi assembly elections but finished the second runner up. While Tanwar got 25,492 votes, the seat went to Balram Tanwar of the Congress (32,406 votes). The BJP's Brahm Singh Tanwar was number two with 27,376 votes.

* Anjali Rai: Rai, a prominent Congress face, lost to her nearest rival Subhash Sachdeva of the BJP from the Moti Nagar constituency. While Sachdeva got 46,616 ballots, Rai remained a distant number two with 31,619 votes.
