Indian swords in high demand in global market

Dehradun, Dec 5 (ANI): Dehradun has emerged as a favourite destination for Hollywood and the elite armies of the world to get the replica swords, helmets, armour and holsters.

 

The city has been in this business since 1943. Its business has expanded to countries like United States, Australia, United Kingdom, Malaysia and Chile.

 

Made from high carbon steel and other authentic material, these blades are displayed by the US army during their ceremonial parades.The armors and sword represent an era when battles were brutal. The skilled smiths and artisans of Dehradun cater to demand of the Hollywood producers.

 

The business has grown up in the last few years, the quality and the design being exceptional.

 

Earlier, the manufacturers catered to the collectors but have since expanded their supply to militaries of different countries.

 

"Majority of the things which we have geared up in today's scenario that we are supply (include) majority of swords to different countries like United States, UK, Australia and many other countries. We have picked up is making replicas of the Hollywood movies like to start with we made first for Gladiator, then Troy, Kingdom of Heaven and Narnia," said I.K. Chaddha, general manager, Windlass Steelcrafts.

 

The fact that the equipments made by these smiths add sheen to the Hollywood movies and are adored all over the world makes the artisans and smith proud.

 

"We feel very good. When the movies are released like recently Kingdom of Heaven was released, all the products were made by us. When we saw this, we felt very happy," said Shiv Prasad Joshi, an ironsmith.

 

Humans have manufactured and used metal bladed weapons since the Bronze Age onwards. But with the advancement of ages, the war techniques have changed and the ancient swords have been replaced by much deadly weapons.

 

The glory and the sheen of the swords have not yet been tarred. They still find their place in the ceremonial parades and movies based on epics. (ANI)
