Shifting ministerial portfolios will do 'no good': CPI

National,Politics, Mon, 01 Dec 2008 IANS

Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 1 (IANS) Senior Communist Party of India (CPI) leader Gurudas Dasgupta Monday said shifting ministerial portfolios would do 'no good' to the country, as the veteran leftist accused the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government of failing to tackling terrorism.

'Making P. Chidamabram the new home minister will do no good because as finance minister he was a total failure. When he failed to guide the economy, how can he be successful in protecting the safety and the security of the country?' asked Dasgupta.

The CPI leader said the Manmohan Singh government had failed to tackle the growing terrorism in India, as he referred to the Mumbai terror carnage that continued for three days and left at least 183 dead.

'The Congress, the BJP and the UPA plus Left combine have all failed and today the only alternative is a third front,' Dasgupta said, adding: 'We will work for that.'

Dasgupta was speaking to reporters here ahead of the 39th session of the All India Trade Union Congress that is to begin here Tuesday.
