EC rejects BJP's call for keeping away Chawla
April 19: Rejecting Bharatiya Janata Partyâ??s BJP, plea, the Election Commissioner on Thursday, stated that Election Commissioner Navin Chawla will be among the three commissioners to hear the case against the party for allegedly releasing the CD with anti-Muslim remarks.
The Commission in its order mentioned that procrastination of a case doesnâ??t make Chawla biased and it should not be a factor for keeping him out from the hearing.

After the release of a controversial anti-Muslim CD by BJP in Lucknow, the Congress, BSP, CPI (M) and Jan Morcha led by former PM V.P Singh has demanded that EC should derecognized BJP party. Later BJP submitted a memorandum signed by over 200 MPs demanding that Chawala shouldnâ??t be a part of the proceedings as there is already a pending case against him. The party also headed towards the Supreme Court SC.
However, without giving any prior time to the BJP for appealing in SC, the EC ordered that it wants an early hearing of the case. According to reports, EC has asked the involved parties to submit a written statement before it.
Meanwhile, Congress has further demanded to disqualify Kesrinath Tripathi, president of UP BJP, and senior leader Lalji Tandon for contesting elections and also demanded a public apology form BJP.
