Chennai, Nov 25 (IANS) India's top ranked tennis players Somdev Devvarman and Prakash Amritraj have been handed the wildcards for the $45,000 Chennai Open scheduled Jan 5-11.
The third wild card for the main singles has been offered to Czech Republic's Lukas Dlouhy who will be making his first appearance at the Chennai Open. Dlouhy will be partnering India's Leander Paes for the doubles event.
Confirming his participation, Somdev, who recently replaced Prakash as the top ranked Indian player and is currently ranked 201, said: 'I am very excited to participate for the first time at the Chennai Open. It is a good opportunity for me to showcase my talent in front of tennis greats.'
Prakash, ranked 204 in the world, said: 'I have always performed well at the Chennai Open. It is more of a home-coming of sorts. This year's field is quite challenging with players like Nikolay Davydenko, Stanislas Wawrinka, Carlos Moya competing.'
Mahesh Bhupathi and his Bahamian partner Mark Knowles have already confirmed their participation.
