July 06: Government has decided to fulfill one of the Kalam’s dreams by approving a pan-African e-network project proposed by him to bridge the digital divide in that continent just two weeks before leaving his job. President Kalam is retiring from the top post on July 24.
A P J Abdul Kalam, basically a scientist has a dream to interconnect the African continent with India in a Union through e-network, so that African Union can get benefited in multi fields and AU can see the Indian’s capability IT sector, technology, healthcare and education provided by the Indians through this network.
He proposed this project to Indian government, when he had visited South Africa in 2004. Fifty-three nations of Africa will be benefited along with India after implementing this project.
The Union Cabinet has approved this project in a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The total cost of this project is estimated Rs. 542.90 crore that interconnect 53 countries of Africa.
"This project will showcase India's capability across the world in the IT sector, technology, healthcare and education. The staff of the healthcare and education sector will be more efficient through this project", Information and Broadcasting Minister Priyaranjan Dasmunsi said.
23 countries of the AU have singed the MoU and model agreement of this project so far Draft country agreements between each AU member nation and state-run TCIL had been also signed in 2005.
Besides, Government has also allotted a new home of this eminent person in the Rajaji marg, New Delhi. The redecoration work is going on for residing this famous personality. Kalam is leaving Rastrapati Bhavan on the same day of his retirement.
