Jewellery worth Rs.2 mn robbed, shop owner shot dead

Ghaziabad, Nov 10 (IANS) Unidentified armed robbers shot dead the owner of a jewellery shop here Monday and decamped with jewellery worth over Rs.2 million, the police said.

 

The incident occurred Monday in Vasundhara residential locality in Ghaziabad.

 

 

At about 11.00 a.m., four men came to Amit Gupta's jewellery shop. While three of them pretended to be customers and asked Gupta to show them jewellery, the fourth went to Gupta's brother Anil's mobile shop, which was adjacent, family sources said.

 

 

When Gupta displayed the jewellery, one of the robbers tried to flee with the jewellery. When Gupta resisted, they shot him. Gupta's brother Anil was also attacked when he attempted to intervene, the police said.

 

 

'The local residents called the police and rushed the two injured brothers to hospital where Amit succumbed to his injuries. Anil was discharged after first aid,' said Superintendent of Police (City) Vijay Bhushan.
