Centre praises Bihar's initiative to repatriate child labourers

Bihar is the migration capital of India from where every year thousands of people migrate in search of education, labour etc., among this population most of the individual are children who are trafficked forcefully in big cities in lure of job.

The State Government according to a press release on Friday marked that Centre has praised Bihar government's initiative to repatriate migrant and child labours to the state.

Also, the Centre while making a point directed states like Maharashtra and West Bengal to follow the same.

The Union Labour and Employment Secretary Sudha Pillai during a meeting with National Commission on Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and Resident Commissioners praised the efforts taken by Delhi and Bihar to rehabilitate the migrant and rescued child labourers.

The release mentioned that several Non Government Organisations who worked with a noble cause to eradicate child labour collect information on child labour being employed in inhumane condition and report it to labour department which in turn rescue such children. And if the rescued children belong to Bihar the resident commissioner are informed to make necessary arrangement to repatriate the child labours.

Praising the perseverance and sensitiveness of Bihar government Pillai said that the state administration took the matter seriously and has opened an office in Bihar Bhawan in Delhi for the welfare of child labours as well as labourers from the state. Immediate attention pertaining to any such problem is ensured by the Labour commission.

It is important to mention that all such rescued labourers are escorted and given free tickets to Patna with timely information to labour department in Bihar and related district department of the concerned individual.

Significantly, the rescued children are sent to residential school operated by State labour department where they are provided with free meals and education facilities. Also, the parents of rescued children are given employment opportunity under Nationla Rural Employment Guarantee Programme.

As per the January 2006 data 13 batches of 522 children have been rescued from Delhi and are sent to their native place in Bihar.

This is indeed a recommendable initiative to address the sufferings of child labourers and the migrant labourers from the state.
