Radio Pakistan terms Hindus as 'fundamentalists'

Amritsar, Wed, 29 Oct 2008 ANI

Amritsar, Oct.29 (ANI): People living in the border areas in Punjab are perplexed to hear Radio Pakistan making allegations that Hindus are 'fundamentalists' in nature. eople, including prominent Hindu seers, in Amritsar have taken offence to such allegations.

"One should not forget that Hindus in India have existed as an open-minded community. This is the reason why there could be three Muslim Presidents in the country, one Muslim Chief Justice of India, Home minister, and Chief Ministers in the past. If Hindus were not liberal, this wouldn't have been possible," said Swami Neeschalananda Saraswathi, Shankaracharya of Puri Goverdhan Peeth.

"It is rather Pakistan which is yet to demonstrate its faith in a plural society by making a Hindu President, Chief Justice or Chief Minister," said Neeschalananda Saraswathi. e pointed out that there has been many instances of terror in Pakistan society, the glaring instance being the hanging of Pakistan's former President Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.

"Broadcasters of Pakistan Radio must know that the right to follow the culture of one's community, traditions and rituals is a freedom enshrined in the fundamental rights given under the Constitution of India."

People of Punjab are familiar with the fact how Hindus and Sikhs have shared brotherly relations for many generations. And, be it Hindu or Sikh community, they have always condemned all acts of terrorism.

They are also aware of the damages caused by separatism provoked by Pakistan in Punjab. The latest radio broadcasts are seen by the people as an effort to divide the people of India. (ANI)
