Palanpur (Gujarat), Oct 26 (IANS) A Congress parliamentarian from Gujarat has asked the Narendra Modi government to release arrears of nearly 70,000 anganwadi employees before the festival of Diwali.

'I have written to the state Government to pay the arrears before Diwali,' Madhusudan Mistry, Lok Sabha member from Sabarkantha district, said Saturday.

The workers with the anganwadis or women and child health and education care centres run under the central government's Intensive Child Development Scheme (ICDS), were given a hike from April but the state government is yet to clear the arrears, he said.
