Denmark woos Indian professionals

National,Business, Fri, 24 Oct 2008 IANS

New Delhi, Oct 23 (IANS) Denmark has opened a Work-in-Denmark centre in the Indian capital, signalling it was keen to attract Indian professionals in certain key areas.

According to an embassy statement released here, the Scandinavian country requires nearly 32,000 professionals to bridge the gap in the IT, engineering and health care sectors.

'Denmark has one of the strongest economies in the world, but we will only stay competitive if we are able to attract talent from countries like India. We are, therefore, cutting the red tape and focusing on easy access to Denmark for qualified professionals from India,' said the Danish Ambassador to India Ole Lonsmann Poulsen in the statement.

He added that India was a 'natural choice' due to Indians' educational level, easy adaptability and English proficiency.

The Work-in-Denmark centre will act as a counsellor for Indian job seekers, as well as maintain a resume database for Danish companies to search for their employees.

Under Denmark's 'green card' programme, qualified professionals can apply for residence and work permits, with or without job offers.

The permits are for three years, but can be extended for four more years. The candidate can also bring his spouse and young children, if the spouse is also qualified to be granted a work permit during the stay.
