Sumit, Varun shine in West Group's win in SP Trophy

Fine half-century knocks by Sumit Rana (72) and Varun Kumar (50) and a three-wicket haul each by Anshul Lamba (3/28) and Vikas Mishra (3/29) enabled West Group to beat Poorvi Delhi Coaching Center (PDCC) by 8 wickets to enter the pre-quarter final of the 15th Shera Pandit memorial SP Trophy cricket tournament played at the Mohan Meakin ground here on Friday.

Sumit Rana was named man of the match for his well-made 72 that included eight boundaries and three shots over the park.

PDCC: 175 for 7 in 35 overs: (Vivek Srivastava 62, Sudhanshu Solanki 34, Chetan Bisht 32, Anshul Lamba 3 for 28, Vikas Mishra 2 for 29.)

West Group: 179 for 2 in 26.4 overs: (Sumit Rana 72, 8x4, 3x6, Varun Kumar 50, 6x4, Deepak Negi 2 for 41.)

Malik Sports sneaks into Nehru cricket quarters

Good batting display by Vivek Verma (80) and some outstanding bowling by left-arm spin duo of Manoj Lohia (4/23) and Rajeev Rawat (3/42) enabled Malik Sports to clinch a close two-run victory over Kailash Nagar Colts making their way into the quarter final of the 31st All India Jawahar Lal Nehru memorial cricket tournament for Raj Kumar Kohli Running trophy played at the Nehru Youth Center ground

A fine century knock by Anish Jain (109) with a well-supported half-century by Dhruv Khurana (52) powered KR Manglam School, Vikaspuri to beat Guru Nanak School, Punjabi Bagh by 101 runs to earn two full points in the First Sant Sujan Singh Twenty20 cricket tournament.

Manu, Sanjeev star in GG Dutt’s victory

Deadly bowling by Manu Kapoor (4/30) followed by unbeaten half-century by Sanjeev Rana (51) helped Goswami Ganesh Dutt Club beat Vikaspuri Coaching Center by seven wickets to enter the quarter-final of the 1st Ganga cricket tournament.

Brief Scores: Vikaspuri Coaching Center: 63 all out in 18 overs (Anuj Kumar 32; Manu 4/30, Kamal 2/17) lost to GG Dutt: 64 for 3 in 16 overs (Sanjeev Rana 51 n.o.; Lokinder 3/21).

DDCA LEAGUE

Riding on an unbeaten 79 by opener Gaurav Sharma Golden Hawks comprehensively defeated Delhi Administration by eight wickets with 11.2 overs to spare in a Super Elite division match of the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) league played at the Central Secretariat Grounds.

In the other matches of the day, former international cricketer Sanjeev Sharma (22 and 2/13) got good support by Farman Ahmed (40 and 2/22) guided Chand Khanna Club to beat Kishan Ganj Gymkhana by 22 runs in the Super Elite group. RCN defeated City Gymkhana by two runs in the elite group while Universal beat Malik Sports by two wickets in the super plate group. Ekta Club lost to Bright club by just four runs.

Ekta Club: 196 all out in 39 overs (Varun Sudan 37; Sandeep Sharma 4/22) lost to Bright Club: 200 for 6 in 33 overs (Baljeet Singh 76).

AIIMS rides on Arun Kumar’s winner

All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) scored an all-important solitary goal victory over Urban Development in a Group ‘A’ match of the ‘A’ Division DSA inter-institutional football league for the Chief Minister’s Cup played at the Ambedkar Stadium here on Friday.

Arun Kumar broke the deadlock in the 56th minute of the game that later turned out to be the match winner.

Earlier on Thursday, Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) and Food Corporation of India (HQ) registered victories against its respective opponents. ESIC prevailed over Zakir Hussain College 2-1 in Group ‘A’ while FCI (HQ) got the better off Oriental Bank of Commerce with the same scoreline in Group ‘B’.

Shekhar Khanna and Pushpender Kundu scored for the winner while Vikas Rawat reduced the margin for the losing side.

Sanjeev Sharma shot ahead OBC in the first half before Bikramjit Singh equalised in the 43rd minute while Kulbhushan sealed the winner six minutes later for OBC.

With this win, ESIC has now six points from two matches while ZHC completed its engagements with six points. In the group ‘B’ FCI has four points from same number of games while OBC has six from three.
