Lucknow, Oct 17 (IANS) A man carrying firecrackers was killed and several injured in an explosion on the outskirts of the Uttar Pradesh capital Friday, police said.
The blast occurred near the Mallhaur railway station in Chinhat locality at about 2.30 p.m.
'The deceased, Rajendra, was carrying fire crackers on his motorcycle and as soon as he reached near the station, a blast took place,' Inspector I.P. Singh of Chinhat police station told IANS.
Rajendra was declared brought dead by the doctors in a nearby hospital. The exact number of those injured is not yet clear, Singh said.
'Nothing can be said right now about the intensity of the blast and the degree of injuries sustained by the victims,' he said.
