Patna, Oct 14 (IANS) Over 100 parrots, including some on the verge of death, were rescued and released in the Bihar capital, police said Tuesday.
Government Railway Police recovered the 103 parrots from a bogie of Danapur-Howrah Express at the Patna junction. 'During a routine check, the team recovered the parrots, being taken to Kolkata in cages,' officer in-charge of Government Railway Police Alok Kumar said.
Kumar said police have arrested Amir Ahmad, in his 50s, on charges of illegal business of parrots Monday. A case has been lodged under Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and Wild Life Protection Act.
Later the parrots were released by the police in consultation with forest department officials, he said.
