Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee has forwarded notice of breach of privilege to Bal Thackeray, the chief of the Hindu’s political outfit, Shiv Sena on Wednesday.

The notice was served to Speaker by MPs from Bihar accusing Thackeray for his disparaging remarks against them including RJD president and Railways Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav and LJP president Ram Vilas Paswan and other MPs from Bihar in his editorial in the party mouthpiece Saamna.

As per the source, Thackeray was being forwarded notice by the Lok Sabha Secretariat and given a week’s time to respond as to why his comments should not be treated as a case of breach of privilege against the MPs before LS Speaker took any action against him.

The Thackeray’s response to the notice will be studied by the LS Privilege committee headed by V Kishore Chandra Deo. The further course of action will be decided by the committee later.

In his attempt to dominate his nephew and MNS chief Raj Thackeray and to grab marathi votes and to seek attention of Marathis, the Shiv Sena chief sharpened his anti-Bihari agenda by lambasting MPs from Bihar calling them as criminals and not deserving to be in the parliament.

The Shiv Sena chief also showed teeth to north Indians (Biharis and UPites) living in Mumbai calling them sick and having bad influence on the Maharashtra culture.

In his editorial in Saamna- his propaganda tool- Bal Thackeray while coming down heavily on Biharis termed them an ‘unwanted lot’ in all parts of the country including Maharashtra, Assam, Punjab and also, Chandigarh.

“The UP-Bihari MPs have shown their ingratitude towards Mumbai and Maharashtra with an anti-Marathi tirade in Parliament” he had written there.

Prabhunath Singh, JD (U) member from Bihar has been termed as a “murderer” in Saamna and also the editorial describes his place should be in jail and instead he is in parliament.

He also criticised Lalu Prasad Yadav for making Bihar into a hell and so should not try to teach “nationalism” to Mumbai and Maharashtra.

Somnath Chatterjee has taken serious note of Bal Thackeray’s remarks against Members of Parliament, which is amounted to ‘contempt of the House.’ Now, after the notice of breach of privilege served in the House by the MPs, the House will take the appropriate action and decide how to deal with the issue.

Thackeray now has to present in front of the 15-member Lok Sabha Privilege Committee to clarify why his remarks should not be considered a breach of privilege. In case of failure of convincing from his explanation, Thackeray could face punishment, including a jail term.

Breach of Privilege notice

The Indian Ambassador to the US, Ronen Sen, was called last year before the privilege committee for describing politicians as ‘headless chicken’ in an interview. He was, however, acquitted after soliciting an apology.
