A man suspected of raping and murdering Scarlette Keeling has been arrested by Goa police on Sunday. The dead body of this 15 year old British was found on Goa’s Anjuna Beach on February 18.

The arrested person is a bartender at the Anjuna beach and was among three people detained by the police for questioning in the connection of Scarlette’s murder. Also according to witnesses he was seen with Scarlet shortly before her dead body was found near the beach.

The Inspector General of Police, Goa Kishan Kumar said, “It is a definite case of murder. The same person we charged for rape can be charged for murder. He was the last person seen in a compromising position with the girl and the police has got enough evidence to book this man.”

“More arrest will be made soon’” he added.

Earlier the police maintained that her death was accidental but the second autopsy pointed that she had been murdered which led police to register a case of murder and arrest in the case.

Surprisingly the autopsy report which earlier mentioned that Scarlet received five bruises has now mentioned of 50 bruises received on her body and also the water in her lungs was not enough to prove that she died because of drowning as claimed by police.

Allegedly the second autopsy was recommended only after the case was highlighted by media and Scarlette’s mother Fiona MacKeown accused the Goa police of giving a cover-up to the whole episode.

Goa's tourism minister Mickey Pachkeo said, “The concerned police officer Alber, was trying to hush up this incident and because of his negligence, this issue has puffed up. Without any report he went to the press and said it was a drowning case. This is wrong. We will dismiss him.”

“This is the second time he has done this. I have a meeting tomorrow with the home minister and concerned officers to take action against the areas where the name of Goa is being spoilt in tourism. The concerned people will be arrested if not today then tomorrow,” he added.

The girl was holidaying with her mother and family members in Goa; her dead body was found on February 18.

The case has once again highlighted the negligence of police investigating the case. Meanwhile, the family of the victim has demanded a CBI probe citing the inability of Goa Police to probe into the death.
