Black and White, a prod into a terrorist's psyche
The Black and White is yet another film by Subhash Ghai with his unique style ready to render audiences with gratification by watching a different genre of movie.
The film is produced and directed by Ghai, with acting stalwarts like Anil Kapoor, Shefali Chaya and a FTII graduate, Anurag Sinha. Again through his signature style of film making, he tried to hunt new talent and expose them to the film industry.
The showman, whose rigidness lies in his experiment, this time has come up with a very serious movie that makes an attempt to draw the psyche of a terrorist and the world encompassing him.
The film revolves around Professor Mathur (Anil Kapoor) of Urdu and a young man Anurag Sinha in the character of Numair Qazi.
Prof. Mathur who teaches in Dr. Zakir Hussain College resides at Chandni Chowk with his social activist wife Roma Mathur (Shefali Shah).
Numair and Prof. Mathur happens to meet in their life and develop a very cordial relationship, a relation that was thriving on lie, a lie that Numair is a victim of communal riots in Gujarat but instead he is a suicide bomber with a mission to blaze off Red Fort on 15th August.
The irony of the film is that it is the Prof. who helps him get the entry pass for the 15th August celebration at Red Fort.
The young terrorist while trying to mix with the people discovered a very strange thing about the people of his own faith and others; the patriotism, the fervor and the unity among the people of different religion. No doubt he was moved.
But his conscience keeps him alerting of the mission he has to accomplish, once he finds himself in the fix whether to go with plan or not.
A tussle between his fundamentalist belief and the one he developed during his stay at Chandni Chowk culminates into the latter’s win and he decides to execute his plan.
The title of the movie itself is an attempt to prod a terrorist mind and the turmoil for he is still carrying the feeling of humanity that questions him several times.
The movie is a battle of a human being who fights with his acquired self and his real self…a human first.
Indeed a unique attempt to reverberate a mind that is infested and governed by destructive feelings.
