New Delhi, Fri, 29 Feb 2008 NI Wire

Ronald K Noble Secretary General of INTERPOL revealed that the most wanted gangster Dawood Ibrahim is in Pakistan during a meeting with Vijay Shankar, Director General of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Delhi.

INTERPOL says that getting Dawood extradited is a major problem due to Pakistan’s refusal to admit that the underworld don is staying there.

During discussions on international police co-operation and the presence of international criminals in Indian sub-continent the duo exchanged the word on Dawood who has been served Red Corner Notice by INTERPOL.

Reportedly he is one of the most wanted criminal among the list including Osama Bin Laden internationally. In 2003, UN Security Council designated him as a global terrorist and is wanted by America for his support to the al-Qaeda and Taliban.

Both mutually opined that INTERPOL Red Corner Notice should be given greater legal validity and importance by INTERPOL’s 186 Member Countries so as to prevent free movement of dangerous criminals and to enable the law enforcement authorities bringing these criminals to justice.

During the meeting CBI Director also appreciated Nepal government for quickly deporting the kidney scam kingpin Dr Amit Kumar.

Secretary General, Noble underlined the importance of enhanced cooperation in the field of Intellectual Property Rights, Cyber Crime and Human Trafficking. The importance of India’s putting in place the MIND (Mobile Interpol Network Database) and FIND (Fixed Interpol Network Database) which permit the on the spot comparison of travelers’ passports against INTERPOL’s 14 million strong Stolen and Lost Travel Document database was also highlighted.

Dawood is wanted in India in several cases of organised crime and counterfeiting, he is also accused of financing and organising the Mumbai Blast in 1993 in which several people died.

It is alleged that he is thriving on Pakistan’s government and Inter Service Intelligence (ISI) support.

Allegedly on February 26 Mumbai Police crime branch arrested escapee underworld don Dawood Ibrahim's nephew Sajid Gulam Mohammed Wagle on charges extortion from a cable operator.
