The film distributor took a sigh of relief after High Court of Madhya Pradesh lifted the ban on the screening of the film Jodhaa Akbar in the state on Tuesday.

After protest from section of people a court banned screening of Jodhaa Akbar to avoid any law and order situation in Madhya Pradesh on February 22.

But UTV Motion Pictures, the producer of the film filed a plea before the court and sought to lift the ban arguing that the ban was unilateral and without any substantial ground.

The Bench including Chief Justice A K Patnaik and Justice Prakash Srivastava quashing the ban said, “The film can't be banned for such minor protests,” and hailed this move by the state government as deterrence to the fundamental right of the citizens.

Speaking on the court verdict Ashutosh Gowrikar said, “The film portrays love between two cultures and religions through a marriage of alliance between a Mughal emperor and a Rajput princess. This is an alliance that took place 450 years ago; an alliance that we need to respect, admire and learn from even today. He also adds that a disclaimer had been inserted at the start of the film saying that the film is a work of fiction and it draws from history but at the same time it is not the exact representation of it and there can be other viewpoints”.

The protestors mainly the members of Kshatriya Mahasabha claimed that the epic film Jodhaa Akbar has distorted the history and thus had hurt the sentiments of community.

The wrath of the community was on the depiction of Jodhaa as the love interest of Akbar unlike their belief that Jodhaa was the wife of Jahangir, son of Akbar and not the wife of Akbar. The community also insisted that Jodhaa Bai depicted in the movie is not the daughter of Raja Bharmal of Amber but was the daughter of Udai Singh of Marwar.

Even with its parts of controversy the film has been received well by the cine goers and is expected to collect huge revenue, the film is doing well in overseas market.
