Attari, Oct 7 (IANS) The Attari joint border checkpost Tuesday got its first tourism complex named the Aman Umeed (hope for peace), at this border town in Punjab.
Union Minister for Tourism Ambika Soni inaugurated the complex in the town, 30 km from Amritsar, in the presence of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Amritsar Lok Sabha MP Navjot Singh Sidhu.
The tourism complex, constructed at a cost of Rs.12 mn, will cater to the growing number of people from India and Pakistan crossing this joint checkpost at the international border between the two countries.
Hundreds of people also come to the Attari border on the Indian side to watch the impressive 'Retreat Ceremony' by border guards of both countries as the gates at the land border are closed at sunset everyday.
