Imphal, Dec 27 (ANI): In a bid to enhance the medical facilities in Manipur, state health authorities recently distributed ambulances and first aid kits among various local health institutions.
Manipur's Health and Family Welfare Minister, L Jayanta who inaugurated the event gave away ambulances and medical kits funded by National Rural Health Mission (NRHM).
While speaking to mediapersons, the state Health Mission Director, Devesh Deval said that the main aim of the move was to ensure that the medical assistance is made easily available to the people residing in rural areas.
"It is just focusing on rural areas. National Rural Health Mission's aim is to provide basic health services in the rural areas. So our focus is primarily the outlying areas and Manipur you know is a very difficult terrain. So our focus is particularly the hill districts and the outlying areas," said Deval.
The medical aid kits were distributed among six districts of the state, including Ukhrul, Chandel, Churachandpur, Tamenglong, Senapati and Jiribam of eastern Imphal district.
Deval further added that people of the state are happy with the kind of services given under NRHM.
"I think people are very satisfied because there are many interventions in the NRHM. As our purpose is not very providing the tertiary services but we aim at providing the basic health care. It comes to infrastructure, it comes to manpower, it comes to medicines and drugs, it comes to service delivery and NRHM has really helped a lot," added Devesh Deval.
The Indian government had launched the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) with an objective to bring about improvement in the basic health care delivery systems of the country particularly in rural areas and recognised the significance of health in economic and social development. (ANI)
