Google marks Robert Noyce's birthday with new doodle

London , Mon, 12 Dec 2011 ANI

London, Dec 12 (ANI): Robert Noyce, inventor of the integrated chip and the co-founder of Intel, was honoured with a Google Doodle on his 84th birthday.

He was described as the 'Mayor of Silicon Valley', for his early contributions to the field of modern computing.

Noyce founded Intel with Gordon Moore in 1968 and originally planned to call the firm Moore Noyce but thought it sounded like 'more noise', the Telegraph reported.

The electronics engineer, who also ran the firm Fairchild Semiconductor, invented the integrated chip, which paved the way for the microprocessors used in modern computers.

He died in 1990 of heart failure at the age of 62.

The doodle on Google's home page pays tribute to Noyce's work on the microchip with an image of an electronic chip and the search engine's name on the circuit board. (ANI)
