2G scam: Swamy reiterates demand of convicting Chidambaram

Patna, Dec 6 (ANI): Janata Party chief Subramanian Swamy on Tuesday reiterated his demand of convicting Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram over the latter's alleged involvement in the 2G spectrum scam.

"Chidambaram is a bigger criminal than Raja (former Telecom Minister A. Raja) and I am still arguing in court to convict him as a co-accused in the scam and we are following an organised path," said Swamy, who is a key petitioner in the 2G scam case.

A Delhi Court had earlier this month reserved its order on the petition filed by Swamy to summon Chidambaram over his alleged involvement in the 2G scam

Chidambaram has been at the centre of political storm ever since certain reports revealed his alleged role in deciding the prices of 2G-spectrum during his earlier tenure as the Finance Minister, thus embroiling him in the telecom scam.

The telecom scam, one of India's biggest graft cases ever, may have cost 39.57 billion dollars in revenue to the public exchequer as per the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG).

Former Telecom Minister A. Raja was sacked in November last year and later arrested after being charged with giving away telecom licences in 2008 for a pittance as indicated in the CAG report.

Further commenting on the 19th anniversary of the demolition of Babri mosque in Ayodhya, Swamy said there was no reason to label the anniversary as 'black day'.

"Today, questions are being raised that it was unauthorised to demolish the mosque (Babri mosque), that people themselves had no right to demolish it and a case on the matter has been filed in court. But to call it a 'black day' is a little far fetched," said Swamy.

"I believe that the Muslim community living in India, should themselves remove all those mosques that have been made in place of our temples. There should not be any objections in removing a mosque from one place and constructing it elsewhere," he added.

The demolition of the 16th century Babri Mosque by Hindu zealots on December 6, 1992 had triggered widespread religious riots across the country. (ANI)
