The capital is going to host the first Indian Ocean Rim Association for Regional Cooperation (IOR-ARC) Film Festival from the coming Friday that will conclude on March 1.
The Minister of State for External Affairs, Shri Anand Sharma will inaugurate the week-long Festival on February 22 at the Siri Fort Auditorium.
The nine-day long film festival is jointly organised by the Directorate of Film Festivals, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and Government of India.
Considering the film market and as a big trade option in India, the festival had been offered to India in March 2007 during the 7th Council of Ministers Meeting held in Iran.
A total of ten films including the films from Iran, Australia, Bangladesh, Mauritius, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Kenya, South Africa, Tanzania and India, will be screened in the upcoming festival, as per the press information bureau release issued on Monday.
The Australian film ‘Yolngu Boy’ will be the inaugural screening of the festival. The film directed by Stephen Johnson is based on three Aboriginal (Yolngu) teenagers and their hard journey through Australia.
Officials from all the member countries and also the corresponding film development authorities are expected to come and grace the occasion.

The 18-member nation union IOR-ARC is an international organisation, earlier known as the Indian Ocean Rim Initiative, was officially established on 6th March 1997 with an aim to promote trade and investment with and impetus to intra-regional trade.
The union now has been conducting various programmes of common interest through trade and investment working groups, academic forums and business forums to promote growth and development in member states with a key focus on economic cooperation and mutual benefits.
Members Countries: Australia, India, Kenya, Mauritius, Oman, Singapore, South Africa, Indonesia, Madagascar, Malaysia, Mozambique, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Yemen, Bangladesh, Iran, Thailand and United Arab Emirates.
